Stainless Steel 904L Buttweld Fittings

Stainless Steel 904L Buttweld Fittings are known for their high resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and intergranular corrosion. These features make them suitable for use in severe corrosive conditions. They are often used in environments such as those found in the petrochemical, chemical, pharmaceutical, and oil industries.

Welded buttweld fittings refer to fittings that are manufactured by welding the components together. They are typically made by taking a pipe or tube and welding an end cap, reducer, or other fittings onto it. The welding process ensures a strong and leak-proof connection.

Stainless Steel 904L is a non-stabilized low carbon high alloy austenitic stainless steel, which is widely used in applications where the corrosion properties of AISI 316L and AISI 317L are not adequate. The addition of copper to this grade gives it corrosion resistant properties superior to the conventional chrome-nickel stainless steels, in particular to phosphoric, sulfuric and acetic acids.

When it comes to ANSI B16.9 Stainless Steel 904L Welded Buttweld Fittings, it means that the fittings are manufactured according to the ANSI B16.9 standard using Stainless Steel 904L material. These fittings would have undergone welding processes to join the components together.

Typically, ANSI B16.9 Stainless Steel 904L Welded Buttweld Fittings are available in various types, such as elbows, tees, reducers, caps, and stub ends, among others. They are designed to withstand high-pressure and high-temperature applications commonly found in industries like oil and gas, chemical processing, and power generation.

It’s important to note that while ANSI B16.9 provides standard dimensions and tolerances for these fittings, other specifications such as wall thickness, size range, and material grades may vary based on the manufacturer or specific project requirements. The Stainless Steel 904L Welded Buttweld Fittings adhere to this standard. These fittings are suitable for a wide range of applications in industries such as petrochemical, oil and gas, and power generation.

A primary feature of 904L is its very good corrosion resistance in dilute sulphuric acid across the full range of concentrations up to 35° C. It also has useful resistance to a number of other inorganic acids, but its performance may be limited when halide ions are present.

Alloy 904L (UNS N08904) is a superaustenitic stainless steel that is designed for moderate to high corrosion resistance in a wide range of process environments. The combination of high chromium and nickel content, coupled with additions of molybdenum and copper, assure good to excellent corrosion resistance.

This is critical for some applications, but 316L is more than enough for most luxury watchmaking. Type 904L contains more chromium, molybdenum, and nickel than 316L. However, it also contains some copper, manganese, and silicon, which enhances corrosion resistance.
